Itinerary Day by Day
Day 01: Yangon – Hpa An (by car)
Today early morning, pick you up from your hotel and drive to Hpa An (some 291km – 5 hours), the capital of Kayin State, homeland of the Karen people, Hpa-An is an energetic, friendly town on the banks of the Thanlwin River. The main attractions though are scattered around the beautiful surrounding countryside, making this is an ideal area for relaxed touring. Along the way, sightseeing the authentic life of local people and natural beauties of the forest and farm. Lunch at local restaurant and visit the Bayin Nyi cave with its hot spring water and the Kawkon cave, a natural lime stone cave. The surface of the rock is profusely decorated with different types of clay buddha images and votive tablets. Arrival to Hpa An and visit to Kyaungkalap; the column or rock, standing sheer out of a lake makes this monastery, pagoda and Nat shrine one of the most photographed spots in all Kayin State. This is a popular pilgrimage site close to Hpa-An town, In the evening, you can walk along the Thanlwin river sites. Overnight in Hpa An.
Day 02: Hpa An – Mawlamyine (by car)
After breakfast, visit to Mt. Zwekabin: the tallest of a chain of limestone-mountains, 2372 feet (723 meter) is crowned by a stupa, said to contain a hair of the Buddha. It’s a long walk to the top so we recommend an early start. If you arrive by 11 am you can witness the feeding of the mountain’s monkeys. The mountain boasts fantastic views over the Kayin country-side. Visit Lompini Park which is at the base of the mountain including Bodhi Tahtaung Pagoda, Kyauktalone Monastery. After that, drive to Mawlamyine – Mon state (60km – about 1 and a half hour). Stop in Thaton, former capital of the Mon kingdom which is between Hpa An and Thaton (capital of Mon State). Arrive Mawlamyine in the evening. Overnight in Mawlamyine.
Day 03: Mawlamyine – Kyaikhtio (by car)
Sightseeing highlights this morning to Mawlamyine market, and enjoy panoramic view of the city and Kyaik Thanlan Paogda and Win SeinTawya, the world biggest reclining Buddha image. After that, drive to Kyaikhtio (167 km – 2:30 hours). Upon arrival to the base-camp, ride up 45 minutes by open truck to the top of the mountain. The Kyaikhtio Pagoda (golden rock) stands on a gold gilded boulder precariously perched on the edge of the hill, which is 1102 meters above the sea-level. You should take only light backpack and shoes to climb up the mountain as only one night will be on the top of the mountain. Enjoy the sunset over the hill lock with panoramic view over the Valley of Sittaung River, with green forest and mountain rangs. Overnight in Kyaikhtio.
Day 04: Kyaikhtio – Bago – Yangon (by car)
Early morning, get up to enjoy the sun-rise. After breakfast, climb down by open truck to the base camp to continue to Bago, an ancient capital of the Mon Kingdom in 15th Century (117 km – 2 hours). Visit Shwemawdaw Pagoda, one of the most venerated pagodas in Myanmar. Have lunch at a local Restaurant and after lunch, visit Shwe Tha Lyaung, most beautiful reclining Buda image in Myanmar, Hin Thargone Pagoda with its legendary Hamsa male and female birds, snake pagoda, Kyaikpun Pagoda with its four giant Budha images. Return back to Yangon and check-in at your hotel.
